Granite Counter Tops

Carol’s Carpet Flooring America offers one of the widest selections of granite countertops in the River Region. The term "granite" is used to cover a group of related stones formed deep in Earth’s molten mantle. As this hot liquid material rises and cools, it forms a crystalline, granular structure, hence the term granite.

Granite and other granite-like stones are formed of very hard minerals such as quarts, feldspar and mica, which are fused together into a very hard stone ideal for kitchen countertops because granite is resistant to scratching from knives and heat from pots and pans.

Today′s designers choose granite as the ultimate custom countertop material. Every home magazine features natural stone over other plastic or artificial products. Contact us to find out how granite countertops can enhance the look and functionality of your kitchen.

Why is it a good choice to have a granite countertop for the kitchen? Granite is an ideal material for use as kitchen countertops because the material is a very hard stone that′s formed at very high temperatures deep in the earth. It is resistant to scratching by knives. It is unaffected by typical kitchen heat, such as hot pans, or spilled liquid.

Care and Maintenance

The purpose of sealing your granite is to keep it from getting cloudy or stained due to extensive use. It is recommended to seal every one to two years, but if the stone gets a lot of use, sealing every six months is better.

Sealing Instructions

  • Cover areas like corners and walls that you don’t want sealed with masking tape.
  • Be sure that the surface is clear of any debris and has been dry for 6-12 hours prior.
  • Pour or spray the entire surface until it is completely wet. When it begins to dry within 3-5 minutes, re wet the surface with another thin layer of sealant.
  • After 30 minutes, wipe the excess sealer off with a clean, dry white terry cloth towel.
  • If the excess dries on the surface, spray or pour more sealer onto the granite and immediately wipe away.

The natural stone you have purchased is an investment that will give you decades of beautiful service. Here are some cleaning and maintenance tips that will keep your granite looking the same as the day you purchased.

Clean the surface whenever needed with just a few drops of neutral cleaner. Recommended stone protection products can be found under cleaner and sealer on the navigation bar.

Using cleaning products that contain; lemon, vinegar, scouring powders, creams or any cleaner with high acid count could etch the surface.

Using house hold cleaners such as dish washer detergent create soap scum. To remove soap scum, be sure to use a non-acidic soap scum remover. Frequent use of ammonia solution may eventually dull the surface of the stone.  DuPont makes cleaners for daily use and won’t harm or dull the surface.

Using general cleaners not specifically meant for stone creates etch marks. These are caused by acids left on your stone. Some materials will etch the polish, but leave no stain; others may both etch and leave a stain.

Carol’s Carpet Flooring America recommends DuPont StoneTech for cleaning and sealing.
